Artist Philip Maxwell established a studio in Port Chalmers, Dunedin, in 1999 and has lived and worked there ever since. The beautiful scenery, landscapes and close community he now lives with inspire much of his paintings.

He explains, ‘I feel it is important for me to base my work around where I live and how I feel about a particular place … and while my work is closely related to Port Chalmers it also is becoming more and more about a deliberately realized reality that is more visual than factual.’


Philip Maxwell has held many highly successful exhibitions and his work can be found in public and private collections both in New Zealand and overseas.
